What to do in Equatorial Guinea: The Spanish-Speaking Country in Africa!

Today we are going to travel together to a small country in Central Africa that, believe it or not, has Spanish as its official language and is passionate about football: Equatorial Guinea!

Located between Cameroon and Gabon, Equatorial Guinea was colonized by Spain and became independent in 1968. Despite being small, it has a rich ethnic and cultural diversity.

And now, for those thinking about traveling there, here are five places you can't miss: the vibrant capital Malabo, the coastal city of Bata, Altos de Nsork National Park, Bioko Island and the from Monte Alen.

And now the practical information: the local currency is the CFA franc, the spoken language is Spanish, and for us Brazilians, it is necessary to obtain a visa to visit the country. We only slept one night on Malabo, an island in the country with wonderful cuisine.

As for the socioeconomic and political situation, Equatorial Guinea is the richest country per capita in sub-Saharan Africa, thanks to its oil reserves. However, this has not translated into significant improvements for the general population and the country is criticized for a lack of transparency and human rights issues.

Now, the interesting thing about the title: although it is in Africa, Equatorial Guinea is the only country on the continent where Spanish is the official language. And besides, they are crazy about football! The country has hosted the African Cup of Nations and has an active national league.
