SERBIA | WHAT TO DO IN BELGRADE?

Belgrade is famous for its nightlife and attracts younger travelers, especially from Europe, but it has much more to offer than just that.

It is one of the oldest European cities with a rich cultural heritage, long history and countless entertainment events throughout the year to satisfy different types of travelers.

We arrived in Belgrade after visiting Sofia in Bulgaria, and the road that crosses the entire country is excellent.

Many tourists visit Belgrade for a city break, as was our case. If you're just coming for a weekend, be sure to explore:

  • Belgrade Fortress with Kalemegdan park, Skadarlija (the city's main bohemian neighborhood) and take a walk through old Zemun.

  • The city center with Republic Square and Prince Mihailo Street is a must as it is the city's most valuable landmark.

  • Of the museums, I recommend a visit to the National Museum, Military Museum, Museum of Yugoslav History and Nikola Tesla Museum.

  • Temple of Saint Sava is one of the largest Orthodox temples in the world and you should definitely see it.

  • If you visit during the summer, a great getaway to relax is the Belgrade oasis called Ada Ciganlija . Locals like to call it "the Belgrade Sea".

If you decide to stay a little longer than just a weekend in Belgrade, head to Avala. It is a mountain that is great for hiking and relaxation and its location is 16 km from Belgrade.

The best way to discover Belgrade is to walk. Unfortunately, the city is not very bike friendly.

Public transport is provided through a network of bus, trolleybus and tram routes and tickets can be purchased from public transport vehicles or kiosks throughout the city.
