BELARUS | ARRESTED AT THE BORDER! HRODNA

Everyone here knows that we love traveling and are super adventurous, but the trip to Belarus was an adventure beyond the limits, we were stuck at the border for six hours, with guards asking for more and more money, every hour was safe for something, and the Belarusian visa for Brazilians it was no longer necessary just 3 months ago (Dec2016), but the disorganized government forgot to inform its military, a real madness. Let's tell you a little about the city and then watch the video about being trapped.

Belarus remains an empty spot on the map for many foreigners. Only 137 thousand tourists visited the country in 2013 - twenty-one times less than the number who visited tiny Estonia. Onerous visa requirements, combined with an underdeveloped service industry, hamper the country's efforts to attract foreign visitors.

Grodno ( also known as Hrodna ) is close to the borders with Poland and Lithuania and was historically part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and later the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. A great Lithuanian duke was born in Grodno and two Polish kings died there.

We recommend the PETPO restaurant!

The city was not drawn into the Russian Empire until the end of the 18th century and was not part of the Soviet Union until the beginning of the Second World War, when it was incorporated into the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, even for this reason its architecture has Western European characteristics. .

Despite its precarious location, Grodno did not suffer serious damage during World War II. Therefore, many old buildings are still standing, including the Church of Saints Boris and Hleb, which dates back to the 12th century, and Bridgettine Convent, founded in 1642.

We can't say that there really was anything in particular to see in Grodno - no major attractions other than a few churches, a nice park and an insensitive museum, but an atmosphere that felt like a Russian mafia in freezing cold weather, the food was extremely cheap (we paid R$17 on a pizza), cards don't work* change money near the border - it was worth it for those details. We made the trip from Bialystock in Poland.
